The last decade-plus has seen its fair share of controversial weapon-system acquisition programs. Whether the littoral combat ship, the DDG-1000, the Gerald R. Ford- class aircraft carrier, or the Joint Strike Fighter, all have had their champions and detractors. But going beyond the defense pundits and analysts, we prefer to hear from those who know these systems best: the operators. We're fortunate to have two of those experts in our pages this month to give us an insider's take on the future USS Zumwalt (DDG-1000) and the F-35 Lightning Ⅱ.
