Shooting Ghosts is about post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)- it is not a "feel good" read. Contrary to what the subtitle might suggest, this is not a coffee-table book of combat photos. The graphic parts of Shooting Ghosts are not found in the pictures, but in the text. This story can be upsetting and hard to get through. Shooting Ghosts is a good book in the same way that The Deer Hunter is a good movie; it is depressing and poignant, but also cathartic.
