When asked to create a class on mathematical finance, or modeling Wall Street, or any of several opportunities to present the marvels of the modern financial system to mathematics students, Steve Dunbar's text, Mathematical Modeling in Economics and Finance, is well worth consideration. My first question upon receiving this book was to see how it compared to others already on my bookshelf that also aim to introduce mathematicians to the magic and beauty of the markets. My second thought was how it would relate to other books looking at mathematical modeling. Mathematical modeling is an interdisciplinary endeavor, and mathematical finance can be a very challenging field.
