The genie, an affordable, straightforward device for combining motion control with time-lapse photography, has been a huge success on Kickstarter, with thousands of pre-orders already delivered. It can produce panning or linear movement, either for time-lapse photography or for realtime video, and its European launch is accompanied by several new accessories. New Zealand-based Syrp was founded by designer Chris Thomson and filmmaker Ben Ryan, who were frustrated with other motion control time-lapse systems. "Other products tend to be extremely costly, very complicated and uncomfortably bulky," said Thomson.
