Although tunnels were not part of the original design for the "Blue Stream" natural gas export pipeline running from Russia to Turkey, two are being excavated through the Caucasus and should be completed by late 2002. A new 2.67m diameter Lovat TBM arrived in Russia via the Black Sea in early 2001 to excavate a 2km long tunnel through the Kobyla Mountain of the Northern Caucasus, part of the Blue Stream gas pipeline project from Russia to Turkey.
