Adit design for sliding bridge foundations

Sotiris Psomas, senior engineer, FaberMaunsell/ AECOM,andBob Frew, technical director, FaberMaunsell/ AECOM describe the design and construction of eight short adits using sprayed concrete through chalk on the UK's Channel Tunnel Rail Link Section 2. Although small in scale, the adits proved invaluable for the slide in place bridge required to relocate an existing rail line.
