USA Seattle Tunnel Partners (STP), the design-build contractor for the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement tunnel in Seattle, will dig an access shaft to repair or replace the TBM seal. Client Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) said last month that experts from Japanese TBM manufacturer Hitachi-Zosen were flying from the company's factories to finalise the repair plan. STP has received proposals from various firms to design the shaft, which will be 100ft (30.5m) deep by 80ft (24.4m) wide.
