Robbins and Herrenknecht have signed contracts to supply TBMs to bore two of the four headrace tunnels for the massive Jinping II hydro project on a bend of the Yalong river, Sichuan province, China. Contracts were signed early last month for each company to supply a 12.43m diameter hard rock machine to drive two of the 16.7km long headrace bores. The four parallel tunnels will be driven at 60m centres and lined with shotcrete up to 150mm thick plus mesh and ring beams depending on geology, said Robbins.
