Travel Behavior of 'Active Senior' Citizens in Japanese Metropolitan Areas: Interview Evidence Obtained in Takatsuki City, Osaka

The advent of "aging society" have had a serious impact on Japanese urban transport market, as more and more people retire and stop commuting by train and bus. This is why the "active senior" citizens (that is, people over 60 who have little difficulty in moving alone by public transport mode) have important roles in the promotion of public transport use. The authors had interview survey over these people living in Takatsuki City, Osaka, investigating their travel behavior. They find some implications for the promotion of public transport use, such as lifelong learning and construction of social capital for the active senior citizens.
