Transport mobility is important in defining thernpopulation’s accessibility to services and facilities. Fewrnstudies have investigated the relationship between geographicalrnaccessibility of urban services for the populationrnliving in residential areas and socio-economic parameters. Inrnthis paper, the distribution of residential parcels is analyzedrnfrom a rarely explored angle—that is, its location in relationrnto services and facilities. The aims of this study are first torndevelop an index of the accessibility of various urbanrnresources to each residential parcel in a metropolitan area ofrnAdelaide using spatial data analysis in Geographical InformationrnSystems and then to develop a relationship withrnsocio-economic and land use attributes of statistical areasrnusing ordinary least squares (OLS) and geographicallyrnweighted regression analysis. As expected the ‘Distance tornCBD’ variable has a positive relationship with metropolitanrnAccessibility/Remoteness Index of Adelaide (metro-ARIA)rnmeaning that the farther away statistical areas have lowerrnaccessibility to services. In the case of population densityrnvariable, the relationship is mostly negative except few areasrnin the far south, west and northern areas, which showed arnpositive relationship. When similar results for median familyrnincome were studied, in some of the southernmost parts ofrnAdelaide, it showed a strong positive relationship withrnmetro-ARIA. This research will not only provide new insightrninto spatial differences between metropolitan areas but alsornpotentially help in assessing the impact of the changes inrnservices on land use. The findings of this paper, therefore,rnhave important implications for service provision and socialrninfrastructure investment.
