Half-day seminars prove a success in discussing major transport issues

The National Committee on Transport Engineering (NCTE) has started to raise awareness to inform both professionals and other interested people of major issues relating to Australia's transport needs. The NCTE has commenced holding half-day seminars in Sydney and Melbourne to discuss major transport issues.The first seminar was held in Sydney on October 2010 and covered the issues surrounding the need for the Moorebank Inter Modal Transport Terminal. The Federal Government is undertaking a detailed business case to assess the need, the scope and the cost of the project so that an informed decision on whether the project is to proceed may be taken. The key speakers outlined the growth in shipping freight and the volume of 2 million 20-metre containers being moved through Port Botany per annum has now been reached. This could be expected to double over the next 30 years.
