The new (South Felixstowe Reconfiguration) Terminal Phase 1, scheduled to open in early 2011, will be able to handle one million twenty-foot, or 500,000 forty-foot containers per year.rnThe new terminal will be able to berth two of the largest container ships in the world, on a new 730-metre long quay. The new terminal will have seven quayside cranes, able to handle ships with a width capacity of twenty-four containers. These are to be the largest quayside cranes anywhere in the world. Similarly, to move containers around the quay, will be twenty-two forty-tonne rubber tyre cranes.
