Some good news emerged at last month's IRTE-organ-ised commercial vehicle brakes seminar in Solihull. In a revised British Standard (BSAU 138b) that came into effect on 15 April, the valve lift of contact (C-type) airline couplings, as used on articulated trucks in the UK, has been raised by half a millimetre. The fallibility of the previous standard was first reported in Transport Engineer in November 1989 (there is no typographical error there, we do mean 1989).
