For years, generations of British operators dismissed articulated buses with a haughty air. They were a crazy foreign way of carrying large numbers of people in one vehicle when we had a better solution in the shape of the double-decker, taking up less road space and with less apparent mechanical complication. But outside London, the double-decker is far less popular than it used to be. Where at one time it was the standard urban bus, bought for everything except a few routes straddled by low bridges or serviced from depots with low roofs, it has fallen out of favour.
