"I can't imagine doing anything other than being in the transport industry" says John Holland, Design and Technical Sales Director with the Ray Smith Group. John has had an affinity for trucks for as long as he can remember, but actually holds his older sister Margaret responsible for his choice of career path. When he was 9 she brought a new boyfriend home who worked for a truck engineering company. Ken, who later became his brother-in-law, was a service manager and from the age of 14 John accompanied him on site visits at weekends and during the school holidays. Leaving school with a few O-levels under his belt, John took an apprenticeship with demountable manufacturing company Pengco Transport Systems Ltd in Peterborough.
