Newcastle's City Railway

NSW Transport Services Minister Costa's 'Lower Hunter Transport Working Group' (TWG) has recommended closing the 5km branch line from Broadmeadow to Newcastle city (see TA 12/03). This should come as no surprise. It is now clear that the Working Group was politically driven from the start to reach a predetermined conclusion. The TWG's reports were amateurish and mediocre. Its anti-rail bias was obvious and shameless. The real agenda, it seems, is to cut the Newcastle train service so that railway land can be sold off to profit the State Treasury and local property developers.
