Centre of the so called Batavia Coast the city of Geraldton in Western Australia 500 km north of Perth on the Indian Ocean, is a busy port shipping wheat, iron ore, fuel, general cargo, livestock, talc and sand. Geraldton boasts a memorial to HMAS Sydney, a cruiser which made its last port of call in Australia at Geraldton before being sunk in action not much further north along the coast on 19 November 1941. The wreckage has recently been discovered.
