Getting the O-Bahn into Adelaide

In late March plans were unveiled for a revised proposal for a $160m guided bus tunnel from Hackney Road to the CBD. The proposal includes a 500 m bus tunnel from Hackney Road to a realigned Rundle Road to provide quicker access for Adelaide's most heavily patronised public transport service. Claimed benefits of the revised plan include: 1. Better travel times for O-Bahn bus passengers; 2. On average, daily travel times reduced by 7 minutes; 3. Increased capacity and reduced congestion on Adelaide's Inner City Ring Route; 4. Returning more than 3000m2 to the Parklands; 5. Significant improvements to the East End precinct; 6. Enhanced event space in the East Parklands and opportunities to further improve the Parklands experience for all; 7. Support about 450 jobs during construction; and 8. Provide for a future EastLINK tram corridor.
