Kalgoorlie Off Street Car Parking and Public Transport in an Arid City

As challenging as it is to operate public transport in large cities, it is a nightmare to do so in small regional cities in the arid interior lands. In some places, such as Mount Isa, they do not even bother, having not had regular public transport apart from school buses for many years. The mining boom has delivered both blessings and curses, perhaps in equal measure. In Kalgoorlie, where gold and nickel mining are king, town planners struggle with a small city seemingly swamped with cars. The planning codes struggle to deal with the abundant usage of cars, for it is not unknown for a duplex in Kalgoorlie with a twin garage to have inadequate parking for the cars of its occupants. This is why cars parking on the verge of the footpath is a major issue throughout the town as well as in other boom mining cities and perhaps provide strong arguments to change the codes so that developers are required to provide more on site parking.
