Victoria - Election Policies 2014

An election was held in Victoria on 29 November 2014. The campaign for this election was interesting because there was much more mention of public transport than is normally expected in a campaign. There was also a lot of 'matching' of promises by the two biggest parties. Labor won the election. Victorian Labor released a transport policy, 'Project 10,000' in early August 2014. The program includes removing Victoria's 50 worst level crossings and building Melbourne Metro Rail. As part of their first budget, $300m will be committed to complete the planning, design and early works of the Melbourne Metro Rail to the originally announced plan and will also commit one third of the construction cost. Another third of the construction cost will be raised from private sources, with Infrastructure Victoria developing options to engage the private sector in the delivery of the project. The Commonwealth will be lobbied to co-invest the last third of the construction cost.
