Auckland celebrates

Public transport is all about numbers; when more people use it, it becomes cheaper to run and there are simply fewer cars on the road, meaning less congestion. And in Auckland those numbers keep heading skywards, reaching 87m passenger trips in the year to March, a growth of 6.8% on the previous year. March itself was a record with 9.4m passenger trips across Auckland's bus, train and ferry services. That's the most trips since 1956, when most Aucklanders were not even born and the last Auckland tram was decommissioned.
