Canterbury Cathedral Priory in the Age of Becket

This is an important book that deserves to be widely read: as a major contribution both to the history of Christ Church, Canterbury and, in its methodology, to the writing of architectural history. Hitherto, studies of the building work on the cathedral and monastery undertaken during the 12th century at Christ Church have been locussed largely on the completion of the eastern extension of the church under Priors Conrad and Ernulf, and on the reconstruction of that east end after the fire of 1174.
