A Risk-Informed Reevaluation of Offsite Emergency Planning Technical Basis and Protective Action Strategies, invited

This paper is based on a project being undertaken by NEI and EPRI on behalf of the industry to reevaluate the technical basis for emergency planning (EP). The objectives of the project are to risk-inform and update guidance on protective action strategies (PAS) (e.g., evacuation vs. sheltering) and to confirm the ability of the current EP basis to contend with terrorist sequences. The project has been initiated and it is planned to have initial results by the end of 2004. The work is being performed on a generic basis but the methodology could later be applied on a site specific basis, if appropriate. NRC is engaged in a similar effort as specified by reference.
