Carbon Fiber Composites for Harsh Nuclear Environments

Over the past two decades, carbon fiber composites have been studied for both fission and fusion reactor applications. A primary motivator for the investigation of these composites is the possibility of very high temperature use. With the new programmatic attention on high temperature gas cooled reactors (eg. Generation IV VHTR) these materials are receiving renewed interest.
