Nuclear Qualification of the Input/Output Modules for a Safety-Grade Programmable Logic Controller

Software-based analog Input/Output (I/O) and Programmable Logic Device (PLD)-based digital I/O modules, as critical components of a safety-grade Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) [1], have been qualified for the life cycle processes and design outputs including their code listings. Verification and validation, as well as a safety assessment and configuration management with the support of matured techniques and their tools have been applied as the main activities for the life cycle qualification of the I/O modules.
