摘要

A high-temperature, low-activation heater and accompanying control system was designed and analyzed. This furnace will be used to irradiate optical fibers to 1000℃ in a dry-tube located next to the OSU Research Reactor (OSURR) core. Short half-life and/or low-activation cross-section materials, such as silicon carbide (SiC), were used to significantly improve the ability to service and reuse the heater after irradiations. In addition to temperature control, the control system was designed to provide redundant safety mechanisms.
