Nuclear Criticality Safety Strategic Vision for Y-12 Enriched Uranium Operations

The Y-12 National Security Complex located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and is part of the Department of Energy (DOE) National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA) Nuclear Weapons Complex. In this role, Y-12 provides critical elements of NNSA's missions that ensure the safety, reliability and performance of the U.S. nuclear weapons deterrent. Y-12 also uses its unique capabilities to support the Research Reactors Programs for U.S. and international customers, other Federal agencies such as the Department of Defense and Department of Homeland Security, state and local governments, and private-sector companies. In support of these missions the Y-12 Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) Group has established a Strategic Vision to align with the Plant's primary missions. The purpose of this paper is to provide a high-level overview of the role of the NCS Strategic Vision in support of Y-12 enriched uranium missions.
