Simulation of LOCA scenarios under hypothetical debris-generated core blockage were performed using RELAP5-3D. The simulation showed that, due to the break location in cold leg, the majority of the injected water preferentially flows to the broken leg, while a limited amount of flow pass through the core bypass (assumed not blocked). No appreciable differences in the flow were found in the simulations: for the four cases analyzed, the hydrostatic head at the bottom of the core was estimated to be enough to force adequate flow through the core bypass and remove the decay heat from the core.
