Size Characterization of Fibrous Nukon Debris Upstream and Downstream of the Containment Sump Strainer

Filtration of the fibrous debris through the sump strainer caused the normalized size distribution of most of the nano and ultrafine particles to shift towards the left. This can be seen as the fraction of particles between 180-500nm decreases while the fraction of particles of size 45-179nm increases from Fig. 9 to Fig. 10. A similar trend is shown for the medium sized particles from 10-500nm. The filtration of the debris leads to a decrease in the fraction of the number of particles in the range of 45-500μm and an increase between 10-44μm. The fraction of measured particles in the size range of 2-44nm decreases as the debris bypasses the strainer. Additional analysis of both the upstream and downstream samples is required to determine the concentration of particles in different size ranges, which will allow for an evaluation of the effectiveness of the strainer.
