摘要

HFIR performs many valuable high-impact missions for the neutron science community. As efforts to convert the remaining domestic HEU fueled research reactors to LEU fuel continue, it is important to understand the impact of these changes on their missions and safety margins. While multiple fuel types have been considered for the conversion of HFIR to an LEU fuel, HFIR re-baselined to the U_3Si_2-Al fuel system in 2019 for risk mitigation purposes to reduce the difficulty associated with fuel manufacturing.
