摘要

Irradiation corrosion of 316L stainless steel yields a thin, chromium-depleted oxide with apparent dissolution. Helium implantation formed a bubble marker layer to enable simultaneous measurement of oxide growth and dissolution. Under proton irradiation the corrosion rate was diminished when compared to non-irradiated regions of the material. However, the corrosion mode shifts from an oxide growth mode to a dissolution dominated corrosion mode under proton irradiation. Additional work is needed to determine how radiation affects the corrosion process.
