One-Way Coupled Simulation of Twisted-Tube Bundle Flow-Induced Vibration

This study conducted coupled fluid and structure simulations for a periodic bundle of twisted tubes with a wall on one side. Pressure data suggests that the tubes are inclined toward a net twisting moment and the tube nearest to the wall is expected to experience the greatest fluid forces. A structural mode analysis reveals that the tubes are inclined toward rotational vibrations, but the small domain limits any long, low frequency modes. A preliminary one- way coupled simulation shows the tube behavior without contact between one-another. The results show that the outside tube shows a preference in vibration toward the wall, while the remaining tubes vibrate with smaller amplitude without apparent pattern.
