The TMT Inoculant Filter consists of two stacked frame-filter baskets, divided by a reaction chamber containing inoculant alloy. Results of filtration and inoculation are as good as, indeed better than, those obtained with a system having two compo nents; i.e., a filter and insert (or sachet or in-stream inoculant). Initial trials established that the use of such it filter containing an inoculant was possible because the melt flow rates were not altered. Improvement regarding regularity of pouring times and homogeneity inoculation in favor of the inoculation filter has been demonstrated industrially in a gray iron foundry produc- ing brake drums.
