The annual seat belt enforcement campaign in the US will focus this year on night-time belt use when the odds of being killed in a motor vehicle crash are three times greater. Research by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that nighttime belt use continues to be much lower, particularly among young drivers. 68% of 16-20 year-old passenger occupants killed in 2006 were unrestrained, compared to 57% during the day.
