Several years ago, the Sever-increasing demand for parking in the centre of the capital resulted in the introduction of the first parking fees resulting in the present system with three basic zones. The residential system (Blue Zone) features a resident's permit scheme with visitors limited to three hours and forced to pay using an online "virtual parking meter". The mixed system (Purple Zone) allows season ticket holders to park too, with visitors limited to 24 hours and again paying via the virtual parking meter or on street. The Orange Zone is designed for short term parking of no more than two hours and season ticket holders and residents must pay the same as visitors. In 2016, Prague started to use, in addition to new technologies for traffic, new technologies for monitoring paid parking zones.
