Tourism Development and the Environment: Beyond Sustain- ability?

At a time when high-priced edited publications of varying cohesion and quality proliferate, it is good to read a volume by one author that attempts to sustain an argument throughout the book. Furthermore, it is an important argument. The case is made that sustainable development, as a concept and approach, has failed to deliver the goods and it is now time to seek a new paradigm to replace it. The author is successful in providing a critique of sustainable development in its various guises but it is less successful in coming up with a replacement, which is a much more difficult task.
