Autumn launch for refurbished X2000

The interior of SJ's refurbished X2000 trainset has won the "Best of the Best" award in the Red Dot international design competition. SJ's entire fleet of 227 X2000 vehicles is undergoing an extensive refurbishment, which as well as new interiors includes full renewal of electrical systems. The aim is to effectively create a new train with a long services life - only the bodyshells and bogies are retained. "The interior for the X2000 creates a particularly pleasant atmosphere," the Red Dot jury said. "The elaboration in detail and the lighting concept create a peaceful ambience. The design succeeds in creating the impression of a comfortable interior living space." A new seat has been designed specially for the X2000, offering improved comfort and more legroom, while at the same time enabling a 15% increase in seating capacity. The programme has been hit by further delays due to the coronavirus crisis, but the refurbished X2000 is now due to be launched in November 2020. More than 65 000 entries were submitted to Red Dot but only 76 received the "Best of the Best" award.
