ENDANGERED SPECIES: DB CLASS 120

Major changes to DB's long distance network over recent years have led to a reduction in traditional loco-operated Intercity services as new IC 2 double-deck sets (with Class 146.5 and 147.5 TRAXX locos) have replaced some older rolling stock and the developing high speed network has resulted in more services being operated by Inter City Express (ICE) sets. The introduction of the December 2017 timetable, which included the opening of the Erfurt-Ebensfeld NBS and consequent recast of many north-south timings and routings, plus the beginning of larger scale ICE 4 operation has enabled a large-scale redeployment of the DB Fernverkehr (DB FV) fleet which will continue for several years. All these changes will affect the existing DB FV Ioco fleet, especially the remaining Class 120 locos.
