Vossloh inaugurates new plant

Vossloh revealed its new diesel loco production plant at Kiel Suchsdorf on 9 March, replacing its historic site at Kiel Friedrichsdorf which first opened in 1923. The new state-of-the-art plant became operational on 1 January 2018, covers 18 000 m~2 and employs 448 staff. The plant can produce 40 locos a year, although it can be expanded to complete 50 a year if necessary. Vossloh said capacity is taken up until mid 2020. The plant has cost €30 million, of which Vossloh invested €10 million. Compared to the historic plant, the production process has been optimised, with an efficient flow layout, optimum use of space and a separate production line for prototypes so as not to hold up series production. All of this is expected to lead to a 70% energy saving, greater sustainability, lower capital and storage costs, and significantly reduced delivery times.
