Heavy rail links to Portuguese airports?

Infraestructuras de Portugal is preparing projects to provide heavy rail links to the country's three international airports - Faro, Porto and Lisboa. The first to be addressed is Faro, where the cost of providing a new 3 km rail link is put at around €25 million. This will be a complicated line to build, running along the marshy western shore of the environmentally-sensitive Ria Formosa (the existing Linha do Algarve runs along the eastern shore, and as the seagull flies Faro station is barely 2 km from the airport terminal). However, Faro airport handles around 9 million passengers annually, and is the gateway to the resorts of Algarve for many foreign visitors.
