Bombardier and trade union IG Metall announced agreement in late March over restructuring of the company's German train manufacturing business. This followed the announcement by the company in September 2017 of the intention to make redundancies and restructure operations at some sites. Both the company and the union were able to claim they had successfully met their respective objectives; for Bombardier losing 2200 employees over the next two years; for the union maintaining all seven main factory sites and, the union claimed, reducing the number of redundancies planned initially by several hundred in the process.
