When the Editor asks "where next for Eurostar?" Bordeaux is cited. That would take around six hours from London with stops at Ashford, Lille, Marne-la-Vallee, St Pierre des Corps, Poitiers and Angouleme. However, heaven forbid that this train would emulate the timings of the Marseille train, leaving at 07.19. That requires arrival at St Pancras at the latest at 06.50 - in practice 06.30 to allow a margin - which even for those (few) living, or those staying in a hotel, within a short radius of St Pancras means the alarm at about 5 a.m. The train cannot be reached on the day by anyone living more than about 30 miles from London with the result that they need hotel accommodation, rarely obtainable in London these days below £100.
