Not long into the film version of Tom Stoppard's play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, Guildenstern asks Rosencrantz whether he's happy. Then, after receiving the response-"What?"-he explains what he's getting at by adding, "Content, at ease?" I think that for much of the time, a lot of people, like Rosencrantz, struggle to know whether they are happy and would rather avoid the question. But help is at hand because these days we have the World Happiness Report, which informs us on a country-to-country basis just how happy we are. The first report was published in 2012 in support of the so-called UN high-level meeting on happiness and well-being.
