Ending a period of intense speculation, it was announced as ShD went to press that German mail, express and logistics provider Deutsche Post World Net (DPWN) has entered into acquisition talks with contract logistics and freight forwarding specialist Exel. The announcement is hardly unexpected. For many months the company has fielded questions about its future and it has been variously linked in press reports with UPS, FedEx, Kuehne + Nagel as well as Deutsche Post. In many people's minds the recent sale of Cory Environmental, a non-core division of Exel, made the company even more attractive, whether this was the intention of senior management or not.
