Development, one of the three strands of Skills for Logistics' 'Attract, Develop, Support' role that I wrote about in my previous column, came to mind in November when BBC Panorama sent an undercover reporter into an Amazon warehouse -something that SHD's editor has written interestingly about in the magazine's email newsletter. From our perspective, we are keen that when the spotlight falls on a job in the warehouse, it should also cast some of its light on how that job can lead to a fulfilling career. And this is where development is key. We want to develop those who work in the sector by ensuring that we create new National Occupational Standards (NOS) and update existing ones in alignment with business and economic objectives. We are effectively the guardians of the NOS and they will form the building blocks of qualifications for the sector and apprenticeship frameworks. In addition we will liaise with training providers, awarding bodies and industry to ensure that there is alignment with skills and knowledge delivery and gaps.
