A study is undertaken to explore the effect of the structure of nitrogen-containing organic compounds—inhibitors of hydrogen sulfide corrosion in the gas industry—on their defoaming and demulsifying abilities. It is concluded that, in the totality of its properties, the requirements of the gas industry are best met by tertiary aliphatic diamine of the C_(12,14) fraction.
