Such is the nature of the CAD/CAM business that we manage to stumble from technology to technology, without any apparent joined-up thinking in between. Years ago when parametrics first arrived, 'bi-directional associatively' was the 'technology du jour'. Then it was 'concurrent engineering' and a dozen other buzzwords before PLM came along to show us what we'd all been doing so wrong for all those years.rnNow we've got 'direct modelling' as the current marketing buzzword and the likes of SpaceClaim and Siemens PLM's Synchronous Technology have started the CAD/CAM world talking about why it's useful to have. Vendors have either been rushing to develop or acquire it, or to tell us they've had it all along, or that it's not important and we don't really need it. But you know it's a significant trend when Autodesk says 'me too' and that's what's happened with Inventor Fusion.
