Challenges for UK construction

A report on engineering and manufacturing was published by Engineering UK (formerly the Engineering and Technology Board) in December highlighting the changes and challenges faced by the sector. Engineering UK 2009/10 identified the £3 trillion/year green economy as a major area of opportunity, with £30bn of work building new nuclear power stations and savings from reducing construction waste. There was a need for more support for SMEs in bidding for public sector contracts and to invest in new technology, research and their workforce. Greater awareness of the importance of branding in a highly competitive world was also needed.
