Minimum force' and 'hearts and minds' are two concepts traditionally associated with British counter-insurgency after the Second World War. The aggrandisement of such concepts, and of particular authors, such as Robert Thompson and Frank Kitson, has led to a great deal of misleading history, which in turn has fed misleading doctrine, to the detriment of British strategy.
