James Fergusson's A Million Bullets, the classic account of the British blunder into Helmand in 2006, is one of the very few books which will survive the Afghan war. His latest, The World's Most Dangerous Place, is a rather more wide-ranging account of an entire country - Somalia - and its semi-detached neighbour Somaliland. It too will last. As the title indicates, the Somali world has had a very bad press in the last two decades, and whilst Somalia may no longer quite deserve the title of 'most dangerous place in the world', tourism there will be minimal for some years yet.
